Mr. M. T. Burwell, a former old resident and banker of this city, now of Kansas City, Missouri, arrived here yesterday, on his way home from Chicago, and is visiting his relatives, W. J. Wilson, Evan Mattinson, Dr. Ragsdale, and his numerous friends here for a few days.  The people have a warm place in their hearts and homes for Mr. Burwell and his family.

Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Burwell, of Wichita, Kansas, expect to visit their many friends here, arriving next week.  They will find a most cordial greeting.

Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Burwell went to Hoopeston, and Oakland, to visit many friends, and will then return to their home at Wichita, Kansas.

Two of Gibson City's staunchest friends, Mr. M. T. Burwell and his daughter, Miss Nettie Burwell, of Kansas City, will arrive today for a ten days visit among their relatives, old friends and neighbors; they will receive a most cordial welcome.

HANDSOMELY ENTERTAIN.


Dr. J. E. Ragsdale and wife entertained the following guests at dinner on Wednesday evening:

Mr. Burwell, and Miss Nettie Burwell, of Kansas City, Mr. Cooper, of Roberts, Mr. and Mrs. Evan Mattinson, Mrs. J. H. Dungan, Mrs. W. J. Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Rockwood, Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Rady and P. A. Coal and wife and son, Earl Coal.  The Dr. and his wife live at the DuBois House, and the guests were received in the parlor, where a most pleasant evening was enjoyed, the Dr. and his wife being handsome entertainers, and the guests were continually having some witty speech or dialect reading by the Dr. to laugh at and be merry.  The banquet was served in the dining room, where the guests sat down to a long table, daintily dressed and were served with all of the good things of life.  It was one of the best dinners and one of the most pleasant informal entertainments of the season.

Mr. and Mrs. Evan Mattinson arrived home from Florida last Saturday to be at the bedside of Mrs. Mattinson's mother, Mrs. W. J. Wilson.  Mr. Burwell also arrived the same day.  Mrs. Wilson remains about the same.

Mr. M. T. Burwell and daughter, Miss Nettie of Kansas City who have been visiting here for a week to the delight of their many friends will return home today stopping on their way to visit friends in Bloomington, Springfield, and other places.  Mr. Burwell is as busy as ever with his large interests in land and cattle, and buying and selling on the stock exchange, and Miss Nettie is ever by his side as a great helper.

Mrs. J. H. Dungan and Mrs. Coal entertained Mr. M. T. Burwell and daughter, Mrs. W. J. Wilson and son Glen, and Mrs. Evan Mattinson, at a Tuesday evening dinner.

Mr. Warden, of Decatur, visited his uncle and cousin, Mr. M. T. Burwell and Miss Nettie Burwell, and other relatives in this city on Sunday.

Mr. M. T. Burwell and daughter, Miss Nettie, go to Hoopeston today to visit old friends and return here Tuesday on the L. E. & W. afternoon train.

Mr. Shoenbarger of Foosland, was in our city on Wednesday shaking hands with M. T. Burwell and other old time friends.

Guy Burwell of Kansas City is visiting friends here.  Mr. Burwell's father was at one time a prominent real estate man in this city.

A recent issue of a Kansas City stock Journal _______  had several items showing our old friend.  Mr. M. T. Burwell is still having a hand in some large stock deals; both for himself and other parties.

J. LOGAN JONES BUYS A HOME


M. T. Burwell's new modern residence at 418 Prospect avenue has been sold for $15,000 to J. Logan Jones of the Jones Dry Goods Company.  The house, which is of pressed brick, has been built within the last three years, and is one of the finest homes on the East side.
